One of the things that I love about living in New York is the fact that if you are willing to make the effort, there is always something to do to entertain yourself.
My hubby and I wanted to go out last night but we didn't exactly know what we wanted to do (don't act like that never happened to you...lol), so we decided to just go out into the city and see where the wind would blow. We love doing this sometimes because everything is spontaneous.
In NYC you never know if you are going to end up at a 2 am comedy show or watching street performers until the sun comes up.
Yes, this is Times Square around 1am for those of you divas that have not had the opportunity to visit yet. It is truly the city that never sleeps.
Since we didn't have a particular destination in mind, I didn't want to over dress or under dress for wherever we may end up, so I decided to keep it sassy chic, but casual.
Shoes:Dolce Vita Gladiator wedges... Handbag: Dooney & Burke black suede hobo
It is a very rare occurrence for me to be seen in a mini skirt. I actually only posses less than a hand full of them. I'm not the biggest fan of them on me, but I just really liked the sassy-ness of this particular skirt. I also wanted to make sure that I got to wear it before the summer is over (lol).

(lol...I'm sitting in a giant catcher's mit right in the middle of the street. This is part of the charm of NY)
I always have a general rule regarding balance when dressing. I believe that although you don't have to spend a lot to look like you spent a lot; the easiest way to look cheap regardless of how much your outfit cost is to show way too much skin. Since I'm wearing a mini-skirt, I decided to pair it with a feather weight long sleeve t-shirt and a denim vest.

Top: Pamela Stewart long sleeve pink featherweight tee, Guess by Marciano denim vest
Accessories: Forever21 Necklaces

Skirt: Forever21 black mini ruffle skirt
You have to love NYC, it's almost to 2am and it feels like it's just 6pm. By the way ladies, right here in Times Square there is a Forever21 that is opened until 2am and Sephora is opened 'til midnight!!! So for all of you divas that live in the NYC vicinity, if you are bored or can't sleep, you can always head out to Times Square and do a little retail therapy...lol :-) Almost all the shops close around midnight, but most restaurants are opened until the sun comes up. You can also catch a comedy show at 2am which is what we ended up doing.
I had a blast walking, talking, and just observing the excitement of tourists and true New Yorkers at 2am. I love this city!!!

not fond of the outfit only because i feel the vest cancelled out the reason for having a featherweight tee on. it is too heavy and takes attention away from the greatness of the skirt. i think you should have tucked the shirt and done without the vest.
ReplyDeleteI understand your comment, but the vest didn't cancel the reason for the featherweight tee imo. The denim vest was the major element of the outfit that made it casual. If I would have tucked in the tee and gone without the vest, the outfit would have been too sassy just for walking around the city without any particular destination in mind. The skirt imo was sassy enough, so I really wanted something to tone it down and make it a bit more laid back. The vest also didn't produce any heat. I wear it with t-shirts, camisoles, blouses, etc. and never have an issue because the vest itself (although denim) is also light. It's more about the structured casual element that it adds.
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to have a blog, you must take the negative AND positive comments is constructive criticism. No need to be so defensive. Just saying...
