Date Night OOTD- Casual Glam for NYC'S Fashion's Night Out :-)

Hey ladies, so last night was New York City's Fashion's Night Out, which is an event that happens once a year around the kick off of NYC's Fashion week. Fashion's Night Out is a way for retail merchants and the city to work hand in hand in increasing sales for merchant's as well as boosting the economy of the city.

My husband and I decided to meet each other in the city and just take in the different events that were happening. I didn't really use this as an excuse to shop because although there were some terrific one day sales, I really didn't see anything that I wanted to splurge on right away. I'm not really a spontaneous shopper. I'm the kind of shopper that likes to think about a purchase and how it would fit into my wardrobe before I purchase, so since I live in New York I really didn't have the urge to buy anything right away (although I did stop at Sephora and purchased a few items).

There were so many events that I wanted to attend, but I had to start off by myself since my husband had a meeting and wouldn't be joining me until later. I really wanted to see Michelle Phan at the 5th Ave Sephora, but I had a late start and knew that by the time I got there, the crowd would have been ridiculous. I saw some of her pictures from twitter about the event and she had a crowd forming an hour even before her segment was to begin.

Say what you want about Michelle Phan aka RiceBunny, but I think that she is a great example of where passion and persistence can take you via YouTube. I think she reaches such a massive audience because her demographic is the everyday woman. Women that don't necessarily want to look glam everyday, but just want to look fresh and pretty. Although some may say that her looks are a bit too simple to be called creative, I think that she is giving her audience exactly what they want and the formula seems to be working for her. She inspires me, not necessarily with her makeup tips and tricks, but by showing many of us what's possible.

Since I knew that I wouldn't make it in time to see her I decided to head over to Soho and just walk around and check out some events until it was time to meet my hubby in Times Square. Sorry that I don't have any pictures of the events that happened in Soho because my husband aka my camera man (lol) was carrying the camera. There were a lot of cocktail type events in that area. Although I don't drink, there were other things happening as well. Bloomingdale's had live mannequins, Anna Sui had personal shoppers that were willing to play dress up with you, MAC had Sarah Silverman do a quick performance as well as sign copies of her book, Victoria's Secret had some of their angels in the store (although I didn't participate in that because the crowd was ridiculous).

I then headed over to meet my hubby in Times Square. We walked around for about an hour, took some pictures with some random characters, and then I was ready to go. The Sephora there was super crowded. Although I did pick up a few things there, I really didn't want to stay to participate in anything because of the large crowd. I really headed over there because I wanted to catch a glimpse of some of the more popular YouTube gurus that were supposed to be there. I really don't know if they were there or not due to the over crowding.

There was a man that seemed to be making "gold" letter and name plates @Sehora Times Square

There was also a model showing off the newest YSL red suede platform pumps in conjunction with the launch of a new YSL perfume being launched at Sephora

Only in NYC...
Yes totally random, but there were a group of about one dozen teenagers giving free hugs to passers by. I found it to be a bit strange, but I totally appreciate the concept.

My husband tried to convince me to get a free hug for fun. I told him that he should go first, I never did (lol). The concept of perfect strangers giving me a hug after they've given various random people a hug freaks me out! lol

Yup, totally random characters on the streets of NYC (lol). This is an everyday thing, not just for Fashion's Night Out...

Something seems a bit off about this joker. I just can't seem to put my finger on it...lol

I am sooo not a cat person, but even I couldn't resist Hello Kitty :-)

Spiderman, Spiderman!

My hubby needed a quick snack...fine NYC dining (lmbo)

Sooo ready to go home....
This wasn't the original outfit that I planned on wearing for the night, but the weather had other plans. My original outfit was planned based on the assumption of warmer weather, but it was actually a bit cool. Because it was Fashion's Night Out, I wanted to be fashionable, but comfortable at the same time. I wanted an air of elegant sophistication, but I didn't want to look like I tried too hard. Since I couldn't wear my original choice, I decided to pair this beautiful sequined blouse with a pair of light blue skinny stretch jeans. To me this screams, "I'm a Diva!, but I'm also very down to earth (lol)". Because the blouse is fully sequined, I decided to just add earrings and call it a day. My gladiator wedges have been getting a lot of use lately, they are extremely comfortable to walk in. I received a lot of compliments on my outfit all evening, but I think it was the razzle dazzle of the top that really caught people's attention.

I hope you had a great Friday night and I hope that you have a great weekend.
Did you attend any FNO events? If not, how did you enjoy your Friday night?

  2. You are always giving us fever with those eyes in your pics Diva!! lol...Your outfit was very NYC glam. The blouse was a great choice for a cool fall night. Those wedges are to die for! As I told you on facebook I opted for a more low key evening me and some girlfriends went to Spice (Thai resturant) and chit chatted...being that I live in the Bronx my Express bus goes through 5th ave...so me looking out the window was as close as I got to FNO lol. The crowds at DKNY, D&G and Chanel were CRAZY!!!

  5. What a fantastic blogumentary on NYC's Fashion Night's Out. Your makeup here is gorgeous!

I wonder if the criticisms hurled at Michelle Phan come from envy. One day, she was just another YouTube vlogger on makeup, and the next, she's got a deal with Lancome and is pretty much a celebrity in the fashion world and gets featured in all the glossy mags.

Btw that sequined French Connection blouse is amazing. And you're rocking it so well!
