So last night my hubby and I went to celebrate with our friend from across the pond, Terri. She had a birthday celebration at The Fat Black Pussy Cat, which is a type of club/lounge/ bar establishment on the lower west side of NYC. All of my friends know that I am not big on clubs, but if they are having a party to celebrate an important occasion such as a birthday, I will come out to show my support and celebrate right along with them.
Dress- Ali Ra @ Bloomingdales
I really didn't give any thought to what I was going to wear until it was time to start getting ready. I just knew that I was going to wear a dress. I love dresses, so I am always looking for an excuse to wear one.

Shoes- Guess by Marciano patent leather booties (Apollo really wanted to be in the picture (lol)
I purchased this dress about 3 years ago from Bloomingdale's. It was love at first sight (lol). At that time, I wasn't really into dresses the way that I am now, but even back then I knew that if I bought a dress, I wanted it to be unique. There were so many things about this dress that stood out to me. I loved the color, the detailing, the fact that even though it does show a lot of cleavage- it was still elegant, and it also has pockets. I love a dress with pockets.

Belt- Forever21
The pockets really came in handy at the venue. I hate going to a place where you can dance, but I have to carry my purse for the whole time. I feel like it limits my movements, so I left my purse in the car and only carried the necessities (compact & lipstick) in my pocket. My hubby was with me so he carried the really important stuff like cash and my id.
Here is the Birthday Girl in all of her Sunshine Afro Glory (lol)...

She also has the most Fabulous English accent. It makes everything she says sound posh and funny at the same time. If it wasn't for the fact that she is an attorney and financial analyst, I would swear that she makes up words sometimes...lol

It was actually lots of fun. Terri was a great host. She is so full of life. She has an energy that totally makes you relax and have a good time.
The band at The Fat Black Pussy Cat was INCREDIBLE!!! They played in the basement level of the building. It was totally packed when we got there. I would totally go there again just to listen to them. They performed a wide array of popular music, from hip hop to r&b, to pop, salsa meringue, to ballads. They always kept you on your feet.
They had a full band and about 5 vocalist. Each vocalist at one time or another led the band in his/her own specialty genre. Every vocalist had an incredible voice, I was truly blown away.
Here is just a snippet. It really doesn't do them justice because they were so dynamic and diverse, but I wanted to share a little something with you :-)
If you haven't been there, you should definitely check out The Fat Black Pussy Cat if you are in the NYC area.

I had a great time, met some new people, and we rocked out Terri's birthday :-)
In case you haven't seen it, here is the OOTD video that corresponds with this post...
